It began almost 30 years ago . . . a love affair with the wines produced from the Bordeaux region of France. Particularly, wines from the small, family owned Chateaus that dot the rolling hillsides of the beautiful ‘Right Bank’ countryside. It is from here, that my inspiration came.
Finally, the chance to fulfill a life-long passion and dream of producing a wine of exceptional character and style, that would capture the ‘power and elegance’ of the wines I tasted and enjoyed as a young man living in France. In November 2005 that dream was realized . . . when I released my first vintage of PALAZZO Napa Valley Red Wine!
Like the great wines from the ‘Right Bank’ villages of St. Emilion and Pomerol in Bordeaux . . . Merlot makes up the lion share of PALAZZO Napa Valley Red Wine . . . giving the wine its sheer power & strength, silky texture and beautiful layers of rich cherry & black currant fruit. The Cabernet Franc adds a floral spiciness, acidity and brightness to the wine, with the Cabernet Sauvignon adding structure and deep dark fruit to the finish. Our goal at PALAZZO is to make wines of outstanding quality, depth, balance and structure. . . that exhibit both ‘power and elegance’ on the palate. . . and that pair well with a broad range of foods. That will always be the standard! It is my hope, that my wine will bring laughter and enjoyment to people’s lives . . . and zest and harmony to everyone’s dining tables! The new vintage of PALAZZO 2009 Cabernet Franc is ‘delicate & aromatic’ … and yet again another beautiful example of just how delicious Cabernet Franc from Napa Valley can be! The wine is showing wonderfully right now with ‘gorgeous floral tones’ of crushed violets, lavender and red cherries laced throughout the nose. The PALAZZO 2009 Cabernet Franc is definitely the most feminine of all the PALAZZO Cabernet Francs made to date, and possesses a purity and focus that is claret in style and shows an ‘elegance & finesse’ on the palate rarely seen in Napa Valley Cabernet Franc. The acidity & structure show a ‘purity & balance’ … revealing crushed cherries, black currants & red raspberry fruit … with a spiciness and hint of earth & minerality. The mouth feel is rich & pure, with a lovely supple mid-palate texture … along with a wonderful, elegant finish!
For those of you who aren’t aware, the 2009 vintage was a difficult one that threw all of us in Napa Valley quite a curve ball. In fact, the 2009 growing season is on record as the coldest vintage ever recorded in Napa Valley! As a result, I was forced to drop tons of fruit (“green harvest”) in the vineyard mid-summer in an attempt to fully ripen the remaining fruit. Heartbreak! My work at harvest on the sorting table was also the most painstakingly selective process in the history of Palazzo Wine… and that’s saying a lot! By hand-harvesting and hand-sorting the precious clusters of Cabernet Franc I was able to create a wine I’m exceptionally proud of. However, please be aware that instead of reaching my goal of producing 600 cases to satisfy the demand of both my restaurant accounts across the country, as well as a growing legion of Palazzo Wine collectors, I ended up with 200 beautiful cases. This is why if you’d like to stock your cellar with this new vintage – and I wholeheartedly recommend you do! – I’m forced to impose a 6-bottle maximum allocation.

The nose is ‘floral & seductive’ … filled with intense aromas of pear blossoms, orange peel & beautiful notes of acacia honey. On the palette the wine is ‘beautifully balanced’ with a rich oily texture, along with stunning acidity! After having the privilege of enjoying five wonderfully successful vintages of my inaugural ‘Right Bank’ Bordeaux- Style PALAZZO Napa Valley Red Wine … I am very excited, and extremely proud to be announcing the release of my PALAZZO 2010 Cuveé Blanc! In keeping with the style and spirit of all the wines I produce, my first white wine to be released is a ‘beautiful & elegantly crafted food wine’. My inspiration once again comes from the wonderful Bordeaux region of France … and the great White Wines / Bordeaux Blanc’s produced there! Our goal at PALAZZO WINE is, and always will be, to produce beautiful wines of outstanding quality, with distinction and class!
