How much time should you spend in Nanfang’ao?
Although Nanfang’ao may seem like a small fishing port, there are plenty of places to explore. It is recommended to spend an entire day leisurely enjoying the sights and sounds of Nanfang’ao.
How to plan a one-day trip in Nanfang’ao
It is suggested to start your day at Neipi Beach, then head to the seafood street for lunch. In the afternoon, visit Nantiangong to pay respects to the Golden Mazu. In the evening, enjoy the waters at Tofu Cape and end your day with a night view from the Nanfang’ao Observation Deck. This makes for a fulfilling one-day trip in Nanfang’ao.
Are there any recommended foods in Nanfang’ao?
The top recommendation in Nanfang’ao is, of course, the local seafood restaurants. Most dining spots are concentrated on Jiangxia Road and Haibian Road. For larger groups, Fu Mei Live Seafood is a good choice, while smaller groups can try A Fen Fresh Fish Soup on the same street. Another local delicacy recommended by Philos is Liao Rongchuan’s Rice Cake near Nantiangong.

Neipi Beach (Lover’s Bay)
Neipi Beach is located next to the second fishing port of Nanfang’ao, near Nan’an Junior High School. Due to its secluded nature and the beautiful sea view where the sky meets the ocean, it has become a popular spot for couples, earning it the nickname “Lover’s Bay. “However, be cautious of the undercurrents at Neipi Beach, which can pull people into the deep sea. It is advised to stay near the shore and avoid swimming in the sea! Additionally, there are several cafes near Neipi Beach. After playing in the water, you can relax at a cafe with friends, enjoying the sea breeze and a leisurely afternoon tea.
Tofu Cape
Compared to Neipi Beach, Tofu Cape on the other side is more suitable for water activities due to the breakwater dividing the inner and outer seas. There are also shower facilities on the shore, making it a popular choice for visitors looking to enjoy the water. In recent years, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) has become popular in the inner sea of Tofu Cape. Interested visitors can book a session online and experience it firsthand.
Nan’an Elementary School
Nan’an Elementary School was once Philos’s secret spot in Nanfang’ao, but it has become less mysterious after many Instagram influencers visited.
Located on the hill beside Nanfang’ao Fishing Port, Nan’an Elementary School offers a panoramic view of Nanfang’ao on clear days. Rebuilt after the 921 earthquake, the modern concrete design of the school buildings provides many photogenic spots within the campus.

If you plan your Nanfang’ao trip for after 3 PM, when the sun casts a warm, slanting light, Philos highly recommends taking a stroll around Nanfang’ao Fishing Harbor. Experience the unique charm and scenery of this fishing village. If you’re lucky enough to have good weather, the harbor against the blue sky will make you feel like you’re photographing a foreign fishing village!
Nanfang’ao Observation Deck
If you want a bird’s-eye view of Nanfang’ao Fishing Harbor, the Nanfang’ao Observation Deck is the perfect choice. Located on the Suhua Highway, it’s about a 10-minute drive from the harbor and was once a secret spot for photographers capturing the night view of Nanfang’ao.
From the Nanfang’ao Observation Deck, you can get a panoramic view of most of Nanfang’ao’s attractions, such as the fishing harbor, Tofu Cape, and Neipi Beach. The scenery is vastly different during the day and at night. If you want to enjoy the night view of Nanfang’ao, the observation deck is the place to be!
