Located in Tainan’s Anping, the art installation “The Greetings from the Whale” has become a must-visit IG check-in and day-trip spot in recent years. Not only is it a new landmark in Tainan, but it has also breathed new life into the previously less-visited Harbor Historical Park. Now, every weekend, a steady stream of visitors comes to admire and take photos. If you have the chance to visit Tainan, make sure to stop by Anping’s Blessing of the Whale to appreciate this beautiful whale both day and night!
About the Greetings from the Whale in Anping, Tainan
In the past, visitors and photographers came to Anping Harbor mainly to capture Tainan’s sunsets. However, since the Tainan City Government installed the new art piece “The Greetings from the Whale” in 2019, it has become a popular check-in spot for those planning a trip to Tainan. Created by artist Yang Shiyi, this giant whale is constructed from over 3,000 stainless steel pipes and features 448 pieces of colorful glazed glass in its mouth, forming the island of Taiwan. This design concept expresses the blessing of the big fish, symbolizing love and inclusiveness, much like Taiwan itself, emerging from the water to welcome visitors from different eras.

During the day, the big fish looks like a blue whale welcoming visitors.
At night, the Greetings from the Whale looks completely different when illuminated.
Since it was a weekday with fewer crowds, I was able to capture the full beauty of the Blessing of the Big Fish at night.
