[Tainan] Tainan One-Day Tour | 7 Must-Visit Instagram Spots

It’s been a while since I last visited Tainan! In recent years, Tainan has added many new attractions, including the Chimei Museum, Blueprint Cultural and Creative Park, Taijiang Visitor Center, Yuguang Island, and the newly opened Tainan Art Museum Building 2. Coupled with Tainan’s renowned local cuisine, these attractions make it worth visiting Tainan multiple times. This time, I planned a trip to Tainan during the Lunar New Year. It only takes an hour and a half to get from Taipei to Tainan by high-speed rail. Riding a scooter for a one-day or two-day tour of Tainan over the weekend is also very suitable!

This time, I chose to explore Tainan by scooter. Due to the itinerary, I missed some popular spots like Yuguang Island, Qigu Visitor Center, and Sicao Green Tunnel. Although it’s a pity, it leaves something for the next trip to Tainan. This article recommends eight attractions in Tainan. You can plan a one-day or two-day trip based on your schedule.

Historic Harborside Park – The blessing of the big fish

The blessing of the big fish in Historic Harborside Park is a new attraction in Tainan this year.

Located in Anping, Tainan, “The blessing of the big fish” in Historic Harborside Park is a new Instagram hotspot in Tainan for 2019. Designed by artist Yang Shih-Yi, this installation art features a big fish theme. It’s worth noting that the fish isn’t as large as one might imagine. It looks fine during the day, but it becomes more beautiful when illuminated at night.

Taijiang National Park and Visitor Center

Besides the famous Sicao Green Tunnel, the Taijiang National Park and Visitor Center is also worth a visit. The center features stilt houses built over water, with large white structures that make for stunning photos on a sunny day. It’s a highly recommended spot for couples or Instagram influencers.

The Taijiang National Park and Visitor Center is characterized by its large white walls and stilt house design.

Beimen Crystal Church

Beimen Crystal Church is located in Beimen District, Tainan City, about an hour’s scooter ride from downtown Tainan. It is Taiwan’s first church designed and planned by a government agency. Its white exterior and large floor-to-ceiling windows resemble the S.T Laguna Chapel in Guam. The Crystal Church is mainly used for wedding photography but is also open to the public. Many visitors come here to take photos, especially on weekends.

Beimen Crystal Church features large glass curtain walls and is known as the “Beimen Wedding Photography Paradise,” making it Taiwan’s first dream church.

No matter how you take portrait photos at Beimen Crystal Church, they always turn out beautiful, making it an excellent choice.

Jingzaijiao Tile-Paved Salt Fields Sunset

Jingzaijiao Tile-Paved Salt Fields is also located in Beimen District, Tainan. When planning a visit to the Crystal Church, it’s recommended to include this spot as well. Jingzaijiao Tile-Paved Salt Fields is the first salt field in Beimen and the oldest tile-paved salt field site in Taiwan. Due to its proximity to the sea and its location on the west side of Taiwan, it is an excellent spot for sunset photography on clear days. Although it has become a popular tourist spot, it still attracts many photography enthusiasts and influencers to capture the beautiful sunset scenery.

The sunset at Jingzaijiao Tile-Paved Salt Fields is incredibly enchanting.

Blueprint Cultural and Creative Park

Blueprint Cultural and Creative Park, located on Ximen Road in Tainan’s West Central District, is a micro cultural and creative hub similar to Huashan 1914 Creative Park in Taipei or Pier-2 Art Center in Kaohsiung. The park primarily features creative markets and performance events. The most famous attraction, the “3D Blueprint,” draws inspiration from the once-popular “Ruins Blueprint” on Hai’an Road. With its preserved Japanese-era architecture, Blueprint Cultural and Creative Park has become a timeless and photogenic spot on Instagram.

The park is adorned with large graffiti walls that are incredibly striking.

Shennong Street

Shennong Street, another enduring attraction in Tainan, is charming both day and night. During my last visit to Tainan, I stayed near Shennong Street and took a nighttime stroll. This time, I made a point to experience it during the day. The street is known for its distinctive old houses and creative market shops. At night, special lighting installations and small bars at the end of the street make it lively and vibrant.

During the Lunar New Year, Shennong Street is decorated with various lanterns.

Even the walls of small alleys are perfect for photos.

The alleys of Shennong Street are uniquely charming.

Tainan Art Museum Building 2

Located near Hayashi Department Store, Tainan Art Museum Building 2 is a new Instagram hotspot that opened to the public during this year’s Lunar New Year. This accidental discovery turned out to be a delightful addition to my Tainan itinerary. The museum, designed by architect Shih Chao-yung and Japan’s Shigeru Ban Architects, features a striking white brick facade and a pentagonal structure inspired by the blooming of the phoenix flower. During my visit, the museum was in its trial operation phase and was quite crowded. I plan to return when it’s less busy.

Also known as “NAMOC,” Tainan Art Museum Building 2 is currently one of the hottest new Instagram spots in Tainan.

Tainan Art Museum Building 2 is a trendy new Instagram check-in spot.

Next to NAMOC, I stumbled upon Gongguan Handmade Tea, which offers delicious beverages.
