On our recent trip to Tainan, we chose to stay at the Lakeshore Hotel Tainan. The Lakeshore Hotel Tainan opened in 2019, making it a relatively new establishment. The location is fantastic, with nearby attractions such as the Taiwan Judicial Museum, Tainan Art Museum, Blueprint Culture & Creative Park, and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store. It’s also just a 10-minute walk to the bustling shopping districts of Bao’an, Guohua, and You’ai. The hotel’s prime location makes it the perfect base for exploring the highlights of Tainan.

Stepping into the Lakeshore Hotel Tainan, the lobby is incredibly spacious and well-lit. The interior is adorned with marble decor, serving as the main theme of the facade. The Lakeshore Hotel Tainan has cleverly utilized the advantage of natural light, casting a wabi-sabi aesthetic throughout the lobby. This understated luxury creates an impression of tranquility and grandeur, bringing a balanced, elegant, and minimalist atmosphere to the space. The hotel staff are equally friendly, warm, and proficient in foreign languages, demonstrating excellent employee training. They are in no way inferior to the staff at other Lakeshore Hotel, making this a great choice for foreign tourists!

The hallway outside the room exudes an American-style chic, thanks to the combination of wooden elements and lighting. It gives one the illusion of stepping into an art gallery. The room, designed for two, is spacious enough. The living space is bright and features large floor-to-ceiling windows. A sleek, extended work desk complements the room’s subdued wooden color scheme. The desk is long enough to accommodate a full spread of late-night snacks. The bathroom is designed with a wet and dry separation. The toilet (bidet), shower area, and bathtub each have their own independent space, ensuring no interference with each other’s use.

Introducing Local Attractions in Tainan: Tainan is not only renowned as a food paradise, but it also holds the title of a historic and cultural ancient capital. It boasts numerous historical buildings, monuments, and cultural landscapes. When visiting Tainan, besides indulging in the culinary delights, don’t miss out on these tourist spots. Take a closer look at the evolution of this ancient city!

▼【Attraction 1】Lao Tang Lake Art Village.

The Lao Tang Lake Art Village, located in Xuejia, Tainan, has been the backdrop for numerous Taiwanese period dramas. The village was painstakingly built brick by brick by an artist named Kuang Yi. In his early years, Kuang Yi saw many old houses being demolished by excavators and felt it was a great pity to discard them. So, he began collecting these discarded bricks and wood. Being a fan of martial arts films, Kuang Yi cleverly used this basic idea and incorporated elements of decay, simplicity, and weathering to create the Lao Tang Lake Art Village. In essence, this place is a massive work of art in its own right.

▼【Attraction 2】Navy Destroyer Museum.

Anchored in Anping Harbor, Tainan, is a vessel that once defended Taiwan’s maritime borders and safeguarded the safety of this treasured island. The TeYang destroyer, originally known as the USS Sarsfield (DD-837), a Gearing-class destroyer of the United States Navy, was transferred to the Taiwan Navy in 1977 and renamed as TeYang (DDG-925). Its primary duties included patrolling the Taiwan Strait, escorting supply ships to outlying islands, conducting surveillance, and participating in various training exercises. After completing its service in 2009, it was transformed into a warship museum in 2011, which is now open to the public.

▼【Attraction 3】The Old National Immigration Agency, now renamed as 【Cang Jin Yard 2nd】.

Nestled in the heart of Tainan City is what’s often hailed as the most beautiful government building in all of Taiwan. Originally used by the immigration department, it was transformed 23 years ago into the ‘Cang Jin Yard 2nd’, and was subsequently taken over by the Environmental Protection Bureau for a fresh start (it has since been fully renovated). The reason it’s considered the most beautiful government building is largely due to its exterior, which resembles a dreamy European castle, presenting a stark contrast to the ancient city of Tainan. It’s hard to believe that this is a place where civil servants work. Although the area is not large, its romantic European architectural style has attracted many locals and wedding industry professionals for photo shoots.

▼【Attraction 4】Ten Drum Culture Village

The Ten Drum Culture Village in Rende, was formerly known as the Rende Sugar Factory. As the sugar industry gradually transformed, the buildings within the factory were left abandoned for a period of time. It wasn’t until 2003 that it was incorporated into the Sianjia Sugar Factory, and in 2004, it was taken over by the local government of Tainan. By 2005, the famous Taiwanese band, Ten Drum, rented part of the factory’s warehouses and idle areas for practice, gradually forming the Ten Drum Culture Village. It has become the first cultural park in Asia with a drumming theme, covering an area of about 7 hectares – it’s quite large indeed! Not only can you enjoy the dynamic and thrilling drum performances here, but there are also various exciting extreme sports waiting for you to experience!

▼【Attraction 5】Blueprint Cultural – Taiwan Decorative Tiles.

The last attraction I want to introduce is located less than a 5-minute walk from the Lakeshore Hotel Tainan – the Blueprint Cultural & Creative Park. This place was originally the Tainan Prison, Detention Center, Tainan Branch of the High Court, and the staff dormitory of the Prosecutor’s Office, originally named the First Judicial New Village. However, due to the rise of high-rise buildings and the relocation of residents, the buildings gradually declined. In 2014, the Tainan City Government transformed the First Judicial New Village into a mini cultural and creative park. Currently, there are 27 cultural and creative shops in the park. The park has different flavors and interests whether it is day or night. The most special cultural and creative shop in the park, in my opinion, is “Taiwanese Decorative Tiles”. The tiles displayed inside are all part of Taiwan’s unique tile culture.

▼Local Delicacies of Tainan.

When it comes to gastronomy, Tainan is second to none in Taiwan. It’s not an exaggeration to call Tainan the food capital of Taiwan, as it’s the birthplace of many delicious snacks. The city boasts a plethora of rich and tasty specialties. Whether you’re craving the sweet and savory Ah Feng Floating Fish Soup; the fresh and smooth Ah Tsai Beef Soup; the nostalgic taste of Ding Fu’s Scallion Oil Rice, Braised Pork Rice, Golden Dumplings, Fu Sheng Hao Savory Rice Pudding, and Rice Cake; or the fresh and chewy Squid Rice Noodles, the super popular Ah Tang Mullet Fish Congee, Jin De Spring Rolls, Shrimp Fried Rice; or the sinful late-night snacks like Charcoal Bun, Soy Milk Zong, Gua Bao, Rice Pudding Omelette, Pot Burned Noodles; or the must-try soulful desserts like Yao Ping, Qing Shui Tang Aiyu Jelly, Sun Brand Ice Products, Xu Feng Hao… and so on. The list is endless and too extensive to detail. The most important thing is to experience it for yourself.
