A must-ride for all train enthusiasts! Alishan is not just about beautiful landscapes, but also about the charming little train! The Alishan Forestry Railway’s “Formosensis” has finally made its debut after nearly three years of construction. Not only is the body and carriage made of cypress wood, but it also exudes the natural aroma of red cypress and Taiwan cypress. Coupled with soft lighting, it’s simply too romantic!
In 2005, the Alishan Forest Railway introduced its first generation of cypress wood carriages, creating six brand new “Formosensis” carriages. After two years and nine months of hard work, the project was finally completed. The trial run of these carriages is set to begin in March of this year, and upon successful completion, they will seek approval from the Ministry of Transportation to begin operations. Once approved, railway enthusiasts will be able to embark on a journey of natural healing aboard the Formosensis.

The six cypress cabins of the Formosensis are constructed with a steel frame, combined with red cypress and Taiwanese flat cypress. The interior of the cabin is equipped with multi-scene mode indirect lighting, which can be set according to different environments for corresponding illumination. The soft lighting creates an exceptionally warm atmosphere. Add to this the natural aroma of red cypress and Taiwanese flat cypress wafting through the cabin, and it’s simply too charming!

To allow passengers to fully appreciate the mountainous and forested scenery outside the window, the carriage has significantly widened window frames, measuring a full 168 centimeters in width. Paired with a deep black lacquered window sill and classic forest red accents, it creates a rustic and elegant atmosphere. The carriage ceiling, made of cypress wood, has a charming curved design. The floor, walls, tabletops, and armrests are all in a warm wood tone. Every detail within the carriage exudes a warm ambiance, perfectly echoing the natural charm outside the window.

The cabin is not only beautiful but also extremely comfortable! The ergonomic seats are made from high-elastic foam wrapped in imported premium leather, with the stitching enhanced for a three-dimensional effect. The cabin primarily uses indirect lighting, paired with classic small wall lamps to prevent direct light from causing discomfort to passengers’ eyes, while also creating a warm and soft atmosphere!
