Located in Changhua’s Tianwei, the colorful Madagascar Almond field has become a viral sensation on Instagram over the past couple of years. The dreamy tree tunnel, formed by over 600 Madagascar Almond trees, offers a magical photo backdrop reminiscent of the Totoro tunnel from the animated film! The trees change color and shed leaves with the seasons, providing a unique landscape year-round. Compared to the equally famous Poaceae field in Tianwei, this spot is just as photogenic! In autumn and winter, the trees transform from lush green to a mix of light green and silver-white, creating a scene straight out of the Korean drama “Winter Sonata,” as if you’re walking through a silver-white tree tunnel!
Introduction and Directions to Tianwei Madagascar Almond Tree Field
The straight rows of Madagascar Almond trees, paired with blue skies and sunlight, highlight the beauty of the tree field.
The Madagascar Almond tree field in Tianwei, Changhua, is actually a private plot of land along Pinghe Road. The owner meticulously planted the trees and initially opened the area for free public visits. However, due to the increasing number of visitors and some not adhering to basic etiquette, there is now a 50 TWD cleaning fee (with a complimentary small bottle of water upon exit). I personally find this fee quite reasonable, considering it’s private property and maintaining public decency is essential.
To visit the Tianwei Colorful Madagascar Almond Tree Field, simply search “Tianwei Colorful Madagascar Almond” on Google Maps. The field is located along Pinghe Road, with limited surrounding space and parking. Visitors should be mindful not to obstruct traffic. Since it’s private land, the owner might not always be present, so it’s advisable to call ahead on weekdays to confirm.

Capturing Beautiful Photos at Tianwei Madagascar Almond Tree Field and Choosing the Right Lens
The Tianwei Madagascar Almond Tree Field in Changhua is undeniably a fantastic spot for portrait photography. The uniformly planted trees create natural tree tunnels, with nearly 10 tunnels available for shooting. Even with a crowd, you can still capture great shots by spreading out.
I visited around 9 AM, and the morning sunlight cast a golden hue on the Madagascar Almond trees. Using a wide-angle lens, I captured the vastness of the tree field against the blue sky. Fortunately, there was only one other group of visitors, allowing us to easily take photos of the empty tree tunnels.
A wide-angle lens can capture the vastness of the Madagascar Almond tree field.
Shooting upwards with a 14mm wide-angle lens gives the feeling of being in a forest.
For portrait photography in the Madagascar Almond tree field, lens choice is crucial. I recommend bringing a 35mm or 50mm standard lens. Using the Madagascar Almond trees as a foreground, you can create dreamy, snow-like photos.
Using an 85mm or 105mm portrait lens, you can leverage the lens compression and large aperture to capture the feeling of being in a forest tunnel. On my visit, I also saw another photography group using a 70-200mm telephoto lens, which is another excellent option. However, this requires a certain distance between the subject and the photographer, which might be inconvenient in crowded conditions. Use your discretion!
Lastly, if you plan to visit Tianwei to photograph the small-leaved banyan trees, we strongly recommend wearing bright or white clothing for your shoot (we chose less suitable colors on our visit). This can significantly enhance the overall atmosphere of your photos! Additionally, friends coming for photography should remember to take their trash with them, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a great photo-taking and sightseeing experience!
