Higashi-Meihan Expressway – Gozaisho Service Areas

When driving in Japan or taking a long-distance highway bus, there are times when the distance is quite long and you need to take a break at a Service Areas. I never miss the chance to explore the Service Areass. This time, I visited the Gozaisho Service Areas on the Higashi-Meihan Expressway, and it was really nice~

Why would I want to write about rest areas Well, of course, it’s because I was influenced by the TV show “Golden Legend” and saw the spicy girl, Zengen (although I think she looks average), eating her way through the delicious food at various rest stops in Japan. So, I really want to go and try it too~

The Gozaisho Service Areas is located in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, on the Higashi-Meihan Expressway. It is different from the typical large rest stops I have visited before. While most large rest stops sell a variety of local specialties, they usually have fewer dining options. However, this place has more restaurants and fewer specialty shops. Moreover, its restaurants feature famous dishes from Mie Prefecture and Aichi Prefecture , all concentrated in one place…

Let’s take a look at the restaurant~ This Kakiyasu seems to be quite famous~ It also has a branch in the Osaka Umeda area, Hankyu B1.

Because it’s only 11:30 when I have lunch, I’m not hungry yet. So I missed out on this ghostly steamed bun…

Other shops – Chicken.Sanhe heard that Nagoya is one of the three major production areas of local chicken in Japan, so when you come here, you must try the chicken dishes.

There’s an ice cream shop here!

This place sells Tianmusu, but it’s called “Landmine”…. Who dares to go in and step on it?

Pork cutlet (tonkatsu)… This flavor is quite delicious, with thick chunks of meat and a satisfying texture. And you can taste the juicy goodness within the meat.

Tempura-infused Miso Simmered Udon with Shrimp Tempura… The taste is sweet, different from the usual miso flavor. It is made with Hatcho Miso, so it has a slightly sweet taste~

I remember that I haven’t had this dish called “Oyakodon” before, so I also forgot who ate it…

Finally, it’s time for what I want to eat~ The number one bento box that Japanese people bring back home!! Gyudon (¥1050). I can’t tell if it’s because I want to bring it back home for my family to eat or if it’s the bento box I crave the most when I return home. I just can’t figure it out~

Beef Rice

Ingredients include: black-haired wagyu beef, konjac…

When opened, it feels very ordinary.

Looking from top to bottom, it really looks quite ordinary~

Upon closer inspection, hmm, it’s actually a beef bowl… and it’s cold… XD However, it has a slightly sweet taste… it’s sugar, they added sugar… In short, this beef bowl can be considered a premium version, using high-quality black-haired wagyu beef as the ingredient. I can’t really tell if the beef is truly black-haired wagyu… However, they made the beef a bit dry, and then added konjac, giving it a unique texture… Different from the usual beef bowl texture you would find at places like Sukiya or Yayoiken.

Above is the introduction of the Gozaisho Service Areas~ If I come here next time, I will try these four types of delicious food in the following order… Tonkatsu (pork cutlet) → Oolong noodles → Gyudon (beef bowl) → Oyakodon (chicken and egg bowl)
